San Diego, CA Full Time
POSTED ON 7/23/2026 CLOSED ON 8/4/2026

What are the responsibilities and job description for the Junior Mobile App Developer position at DOJO Air?

Company Description Dojo Air is the world’s first breath intelligence platform, redefining how people understand, monitor, and optimize respiratory health. Powered by a breakthrough modular sensor that captures breath at 2,000 samples per second, the company delivers real-time respiratory insights for both everyday users and healthcare professionals. Backed by a granted U.S. utility patent and a three-tier AI architecture, Dojo Air combines on-device coaching, adaptive server-side intelligence, and conversational AI to create a comprehensive health ecosystem. The platform positions breath as the fourth pillar of health, alongside diet, exercise, and sleep, and supports both consumer performance and wellbeing as well as clinical environments where respiratory monitoring is critical.

Junior Mobile Developer

We're building a connected health hardware product: a custom device that streams real-time sensor data over Bluetooth to a companion mobile app that guides users through structured training sessions and tracks their progress. We have working hardware, a production app in testers' hands, and a clear roadmap to launch.

This is a true entry-level role — no professional experience required. You'll work directly under our senior mobile engineer, learning by shipping: real features, real code review, and a clear growth path on a small team where your work is visible in the product immediately.

What you'll do

- Build app screens and UI components in React Native and TypeScript, with guidance and code review from a senior engineer

- Write and maintain automated tests alongside every feature you ship

- Investigate and fix bugs reported by our testers, learning to trace issues through a real production codebase

- Grow into the deeper layers of the stack over time — data sync, backend, and eventually the Bluetooth and hardware integrations — at a pace matched to your progress

- Participate in code reviews, standups, and release testing as a full member of the team

What makes this role interesting

- Learn on a codebase worth learning from: 600 automated tests, CI-gated releases, and modern tooling

- Software meets hardware: the app you work on talks to a physical device in real time

- Real mentorship: you'll be the second engineer, working directly with the person who owns the platform

- Growth path: the goal is for this role to grow into an independent mid-level engineer as we scale

Required qualifications

- Solid JavaScript or TypeScript fundamentals and a working understanding of React (from coursework, bootcamp, personal projects, or open source — we don't care which)

- You've built a personal project using Claude Code or a similar AI coding tool (Cursor, Copilot, etc.) — and you can walk us through it: what you built, how you directed the tool, what it got wrong, and how you caught and fixed it

- Basic Git literacy: branches, commits, pull requests

- Curiosity and follow-through: comfortable saying "I don't know," asking questions, and digging until something makes sense

- Receptive to code review and able to iterate on feedback without taking it personally

Nice to have

- Any exposure to React Native, Expo, or mobile development

- Any experience writing tests, in any framework

- Familiarity with SQL or any backend basics

- Interest in hardware, health tech, or embedded systems
