DEPUTY SHERIFF

ACCOUNTABLE TO: County Sheriff
HOURS: Full-Time; Schedule Varies - subject to call 24 hours per day, possible rotating shifts, nights, weekends and holidays
WAGE RANGE: $ $43.55 per hour
JOB PURPOSE:
Under the supervision of the Sheriff or other Superior Officers, performs law enforcement duties throughout Dodge County. Engages in the prevention and detection of crime, the enforcement of Federal, State, and local laws and ordinances, and other duties as required.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Working knowledge of operating procedures of the Sheriff's Office, Municipal, County, State & Federal law & ordinances, roadway system and geographic characteristics of Dodge County, policies and procedures of the Dodge County Sheriff's Office, principles, practices, methods & modern techniques of crime prevention and law enforcement, and emergency first aid procedures. Must be skilled in the use of law enforcement equipment such as firearms, impact weapons and other defensive weapons, and restraint techniques, as well as laws & policies that regulate their use. Ability to react quickly & calmly in emergencies. Skilled in ability to express oneself clearly both orally and in writing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a Full-Time licensed peace officer or eligible to be licensed as required by the Peace Officers Standards and Training Board of Minnesota (POST Board).
- Must pass a written, oral, psychological, strength and agility test physical examinations and background investigation.
- Must possess a valid Minnesota driver's license with no serious traffic violations within the last three years.
- Prefer Spanish speaking skills, but not required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Work may range from long-range periods of physical inactivity to extremely demanding exertion physical in nature. Works in a variety of environmental conditions, and hazardous conditions. Operates marked patrol car and uses equipment such as radar units, alcohol testing equipment, radios, guns, as well as computers & other office equipment.
Work mostly in rural areas, may work some city contract.
