Assistant Football Coach-DCMS

ASSISTANT COACH QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

1. Certified as a teacher by the West Virginia Board of Education or holds a coaching authorization issued through the West Virginia Office of Certification, Licensure and Professional Preparation and by the State Superintendent of Schools.
2. Exhibit knowledge of the assigned sport, as well as of the duties and responsibilities of an assistant coach and the ability to perform these duties.
3. Specialized training in the area of the assigned.
4. Good evaluations and/or recommendations from professional associates, employers.
5. Ability to communicate effectively with students, school personnel, and parents.
6. Ability to work cooperatively with students, staff, parents and community.

 REPORTS TO:  Athletic Director and/or Principal

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

The assistant football coach shall adhere to the principles and philosophy of the middle school interscholastic athletic program and apply all applicable rules and regulations of WVSSAC.

 JOB  RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Develop, implement, and manage the athletic program as directed by the head coach.
2. Foster a climate conducive to learning and good sportsmanship.
3. Establish and maintain proper record keeping systems as directed by the head coach.
4. Provide good leadership in academic and extracurricular programs.
5. Promote and maintain positive student, coach, administrator, parent, and community relations.
6. Follow the rules, regulations, and timelines scheduled for the sport as outlined by the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission, principal, and/or head coach.
7. Practice positive public relations by communicating with parents, students, and the educational community.
8. Maintain professional work habits.
9. Continually upgrade coaching skills.
10. Perform other job related duties as assigned by the head coach, athletic director, assistant principal, or principal
11. Responsible for students, facility, and equipment.
12. Manage budget.
13. Follow purchasing procedures.
14. Implement fundamental sports skills and sports management systems.
15. Organizes strategies for teaching sports skills and sports management systems. 

TERM:  To begin the 2026-2027 Football Season.
