Position(s): School Lunch and Recess Monitor (Grades 6-8)
Effective: Approximately March 4, 2026
Description: Perform a variety of non-teaching duties in overseeing student activities and maintaining order in school buildings, on school grounds and playgrounds; does related work as required.
Hours 10:50 - 1:50 Mondays - Fridays. This is a civil service position. This is a regular part-time probationary position.
Approx. $19.21 per hour.
Terms of employment are in accordance with the CSEA Clerical, Teacher Aide/Teaching Assistant contract.
Specific Duties May Include
Recess
Meets students on playground during recess
Circulates through designated playground area to actively supervise students
Responds immediately to inappropriate physical behavior
Approaches students playing alone to check in
Mediates conflict between students
Actively supervises students in order to prevent conflicts
Walks students from recess to lunch quietly so as to not disrupt classes in session
Establishes consequences for inappropriate behavior during recess such as time away from the group, facilitated apologies, etc.
Informs Teacher Recess Lead if student does not respond to redirection/consequences
Ensures safe behavior to prevent injury
Lunch
Ensures that students line up for lunch promptly
Ensures that students start eating lunch promptly
Ensures students are sitting at assigned tables at all times except when getting lunch, throwing away lunch, getting water, using the bathroom, or going to the nurse
Maintains quiet student volume in cafeteria
Immediately becomes silent and ensures students becomes silent when adult is making announcement on microphone
Circulates through designated cafeteria area to actively supervise students
Monitors student clean up and composting
Establishes consequences for inappropriate behavior during lunch such as time away from the group, facilitated apologies, etc.
Overall
Through active supervision, is quick to notice and respond to any students that need redirection or support
Enforces extra supervision for and separations between students as needed
Transitions promptly with students between recess/lunch/classroom
Assesses safety and send students to the nurse with a pass if needed
Attends weekly lunch monitor meetings
Arrives to work and meetings promptly
Checks email daily for timely updates
Respects, uses, and understands students' preferred names and pronouns
