Role Summary:
- We are seeking a Senior SAP HANA Data Architect with 10 years of enterprise data engineering and architecture experience. - This role will support our modernization effort to transition from legacy data warehouse and mainframe environments into a unified SAP HANA based data platform.
- The ideal candidate brings strong data architecture expertise, deep knowledge of HANA modeling practices, and experience translating legacy logic into scalable, modern data models.
- This is both a strategic and hands-on role that directly impacts delivery timelines for our DW sunset initiative.
Key Responsibilities:
SAP HANA Data Architecture & Modeling
- Design and implement HANA-native data models aligned with enterprise data standards.
- Analyze legacy data structures (Mainframe, COBOL, Oracle) and redesign them effectively within HANA.
- Establish reusable design patterns, modeling guidelines, and metadata standards for the BI team.
- Ensure models support high-performance analytical and reporting use cases across business functions.
Legacy Data Warehouse Migration
- Interpret and translate COBOL/mainframe business logic, copybooks, and flat-file layouts into structured HANA models.
- Partner with ETL and backend teams to modernize existing pipelines and align logic with HANA platform capabilities.
- Support the strategic roadmap for decommissioning legacy systems and consolidating logic into HANA.
Automation & Optimization
- Identify opportunities to reduce manual modeling effort through templates, metadata-driven modeling, or automation tools.
- Collaborate with automation developers to streamline model creation, deployment, and validation processes.
- Improve overall efficiency of the DW migration program by proposing architectural enhancements and automation pathways.
Validation & Quality Assurance
- Define validation frameworks to verify that HANA outputs align with legacy warehouse results.
- Lead root-cause analysis for data discrepancies and coordinate fixes across ETL and modeling layers.
- Support end-to-end testing cycles including SIT, UAT, and integration testing.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Work closely with BI, ETL, and application teams to translate business requirements into HANA-based solutions.
- Provide senior-level architectural guidance and mentorship to developers.
- Participate in cross-functional design discussions and contribute to long-term data platform strategy.
Required Experience:
- 10 years in data architecture, data engineering, or BI development roles.
- Strong hands-on experience with SAP HANA modeling, performance tuning, and architectural design.
- Experience translating legacy platform logic (COBOL, mainframe, Oracle) into modern HANA structures.
- Deep expertise in SQL, enterprise data modeling, and understanding of large-scale data ecosystems.
- Proven ability to work in complex environments with multiple stakeholders and tight timelines.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in large-scale data warehouse modernization or sunset initiatives.
- Familiarity with metadata-driven design, automation, or code generation frameworks for data modeling.
- Experience in environments requiring strong lineage, auditability, and data governance.
Role Expectations:
- Operate independently and drive architectural decisions.
- Contribute directly to the success of the Legacy DW Sunset program.
- Ensure HANA models are accurate, scalable, maintainable, and ready for long-term enterprise use.
