We are a small, fully-remote team that works very closely to produce high-quality research and analysis contributing to municipal, state, and national decision making. We seek a full-time Associate who is skilled in managing multi-faceted projects, detail-oriented, organized, and possesses excellent communication, writing, and data management skills. Individuals must be able to work independently while staying coordinated with the team for each project. Working in teams and attention to detail are essential to DMA’s success.  


This position will provide the employee with broad exposure to behavioral health policy, programs, and management. DMA is closely involved in assisting our clients with planning and implementing new forms of organization and service delivery. This work offers the opportunity to establish collaborative relationships with staff in government leadership roles, community members and people with lived experience of substance use and mental health conditions, as well as staff and leadership of community and advocacy organizations. 


Responsibilities will include:

Project Management

●      In support of Project Leads, coordinate project activities and maintain overall project status.

●      Draft project timelines and coordinate with Project Leads to meet them.

●      Draft meeting agendas, schedule client and internal team meetings, assist in facilitating meetings, and take actionable and detailed meeting notes.

●      Schedule interviews and focus groups, maintain communication with interviewees and focus group participants, and take detailed notes.

Data Collection & Management

●      Coordinate DMA activities as liaison to client staff, community members, or partner organizations collecting data, and providing technical assistance as needed.

●      Contribute to data collection planning, design, and implementation.

●      Formulate data requests, consolidate and validate data, and clean data.

●      Monitor data collection and create and manage data collection tracking sheets.

●      Acquire data from multiple data sources including databases, public sources, and surveys.

●      Assist in conducting and facilitating stakeholder interviews and focus groups.

●      Maintain data security and confidentiality.

●      Identify data inconsistencies and irregularities if and when they arise and bring to Project Team in a timely manner.

Data Analysis & Visualization

●      Develop and implement data analysis plans, maintaining detailed documentation. 

●      Coordinate and work with other DMA staff to clean and analyze qualitative and quantitative data.

●      Create data visualizations (charts, maps, tables, etc.).

●      Use Pivot Tables and advanced Excel functions to summarize data.

●      Summarize data in narrative, tabular, and graphic formats for presentations and reports.

Document Review

●      Conduct in-depth literature searches on topics related to current projects.

●      Review and analyze state and federal regulations, and requests for proposals.

Presentations and Report Writing

●      Write data analysis summaries and key takeaways for presentations.

●      Assist in developing recommendations for clients.

●      Contribute to draft and revised program and progress reports and other project reporting materials, as well as funding proposals and other documents as needed.

●      Present to internal teams, clients, and identified interested parties as requested by the Project Lead.

●      Assist with business development and marketing, including proposals, website development, and social media.


The ideal candidate is: a flexible team player who learns quickly; a strategic thinker; comfortable navigating complex datasets; effective in writing, communicating, and managing multiple projects with varying deadlines; adept at managing client interactions and supporting the facilitation of meetings; and has experience with surveys, focus groups, and/or interviews. Data visualization experience is also valued.

Requirements: Well developed Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) skills. Experience with focus groups, interviews, qualitative data analysis platforms, and statistical software and related tools such as Tableau, R, Dedoose, MailChimp, SurveyMonkey, and Access. Training and/or work experience concerning health or behavioral health policies and services for populations experiencing disparities in access and outcomes desirable. Master’s degree (preferred) and/or 5 years of relevant professional experience preferred.
