The Senior Tax Consultant will support team members in performing reverse audits and filing refund claims for all clients. The Senior Tax Consultant will support team members in performing reverse audits and filing refund claims for all clients. Conduct smaller transaction tax overpayment reviews, reverse audits, transaction tax analyses, and file refund claims for DMA clients. Perform multi-state research and work with state taxing authorities.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Prepares for reviews including researching and developing a review plan, etc.
- Work with clients’ data to verify control totals, reconcile tax reported, and analyze audit populations and samples
- Obtains source documentation from clients’ system
- Reviews client documents relating to transaction taxes including invoices, purchase orders, transaction tax returns and details, transaction tax audits, etc.
- Creates schedules of invoices and/or other documents
- Researches and enters data regarding tax exemptions into the system
- Research transaction tax questions and issues
- Prepares transaction tax refund requests to be submitted to states and/or vendors
- Negotiates with state auditors during refund processing, audit appeals, etc.
- Prepares updates and reports of findings for clients
- Prepares required administrative information for Regional Director, including WIP maintenance, entering job cost hours, backlog days, forecasting, etc.
- Travels to client locations
- Identify and collect data on prospective clients
- Analyze potential opportunities
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field
- 3-5 years professional experience preferably in accounting or tax
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Experience researching tax questions and issues
- Demonstrated problem solving, verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with professionals at all levels
- Valid driver’s license
- Travel as required (approximately 5%)
