A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-09 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. To qualify at the GS-11 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes:
GS-09:
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

GS-09:
- Searching established legal databases, agency manuals, and commercial publications to retrieve specific, requested documents, cases, or regulations under the explicitly direction of a senior specialist or attorney.
- Assisting in the review and summary of information from case files to support case preparation and applying established guidelines and procedures to identify information that may need to be withheld or redacted prior to release.
- Utilizing standard document control and security procedures to safeguard specific case files, ensuring sensitive investigative information is properly handled and protected from unauthorized disclosure in accordance with established institutional policies.
- Researching legal reference sources in agency manuals, reference systems, directives, issuances, precedent decisions, court decisions, and commercial legal publications sufficient to perform extensive and thorough legal research into the legislative history, precedent cases, decisions and opinions that may apply.
- Evaluating the relevance of and summarize substantive information; to assist in case preparation; and to ensure information is lawfully released or withheld.
- Applying document control and security measures at the institutional level to prevent the release of any investigative information that would endanger pending prosecution, the orderly and safe operation of the institution, or endanger the lives or physical well-being of institutional staff.
- GS-09: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related.
- GS-11: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related.
