What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Quality Assurance position at DL Resource Group?
Location: US/NYC adjacent (ideally once a week in NYC office - Tuesdays)
Work Hours: US hours working closely with engineering team primarily in Europe
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Director of Quality Assurance to build, lead, and scale a high-performing QA team, including both manual testers and Software Development Engineers in Test (SDETs). You will own our quality strategy, drive continuous improvement in test automation, testing processes, and toolchains, and ensure exceptional product reliability. Your expertise in Windows internals, endpoint security, network security products, and kernel-level technologies will be essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and execute QA strategy, processes, and best practices, ensuring our software meets rigorous security, performance, and reliability standards.
- Manage and mentor a distributed QA team of manual testers, SDETs (automation testers) and escalation engineers fostering a collaborative and innovative testing culture.
- Lead test planning and execution throughout all phases of product and feature development, integrating quality practices into design, build, and deployment phases (ATDD).
- Own and continuously improve our test automation frameworks, delivery pipelines, and test management systems.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Product Management, Customer Success, and Support teams, gathering feedback and ensuring early-stage identification and resolution of quality issues.
- Conduct and lead thorough root cause analysis for critical issues, driving corrective and preventative actions to improve product stability and performance.
- Actively participate in hands-on testing, using experimental versions of products, and providing early and actionable feedback to development teams.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience leading Quality Assurance teams in highly technical environments focused on Windows and Mac endpoint security products, VPN solutions, drivers, and network security products.
- Deep technical expertise with testing deeply technical products that have both user mode and kernel mode components, OS security mechanisms, file system and networking stacks.
- Familiarity with MacOS internals is highly advantageous.
- Strong experience testing complex distributed systems, APIs, web backends, and network-layer products.
- Demonstrated success scaling QA teams, developing manual testers into automation experts, and building cohesive, productive teams.
- Hands-on leader with proven automation expertise and familiarity with modern automation and CI/CD frameworks.
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
- Passionate about delivering exceptional quality software and continuously improving testing practices.
- Experience scaling a QA team from individual contributors to a cohesive team.
Salary : $275,000 - $300,000
