DL English Design Studio is a commercial design and fabrication company specializing in custom architectural millwork, décor elements, signage, and branded environments for retail, grocery, hospitality, and commercial interior projects.
We are seeking a Millwork Detailer / Technical Designer who can translate design intent and project requirements into accurate, buildable shop and installation drawings.
This position is based at our Pacoima production facility.
The role supports custom commercial millwork and related fabrication scopes, including cabinetry, wall paneling, counters, fixtures, décor elements, signage, and specialty fabricated items.
The ideal candidate is technically capable, detail-oriented, and able to work from architectural drawings, design direction, field information, and production requirements without needing every detail pre-defined. This position requires practical judgment, clear communication, and an understanding of how drawings and technical information are used by the shop, vendors, installers, and project team.
- Prepare detailed shop and installation drawings for custom millwork, décor elements, signage, and specialty fabricated items
- Clearly define materials, finishes, hardware, mounting conditions, clearances, critical dimensions, fabrication requirements, and installation details
- Align drawing packages with design intent, field dimensions, site conditions, project requirements, and production input
- Identify missing information, conflicts, or unclear details and communicate them clearly to the appropriate team member
- Develop practical detailing solutions that consider fabrication, finishing, delivery, installation, schedule, and budget
- Revise drawings based on internal review comments, client comments, field conditions, approved changes, or production needs
- Prepare or assist with material takeoffs, cut lists, hardware schedules, and related production information
- Coordinate with purchasing, production, vendors, and project management to confirm materials, hardware, finishes, and fabrication requirements
- Support the shop and field with clear drawings, practical details, and timely clarification when needed
- Ability to read and understand architectural plans, elevations, sections, details, and specifications
- Practical understanding of millwork construction, cabinetry, materials, hardware, fasteners, and installation conditions
- Ability to interpret design intent and translate it into buildable shop and installation drawings
- Strong technical judgment and the ability to identify issues before they become shop or field problems
- Familiarity with material takeoffs, cut lists, cabinet hardware, and/or door hardware
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organization, accuracy, and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced commercial project environment
