Job Summary
This position provides small group instruction for students struggling with mathematics skills. The focus of this grant-funded position is flexible in response to the data driven needs of the school. The Math Intervention Teacher will be a member of the school’s Intervention Team.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Demonstrates current and comprehensive knowledge of evidence based instructional practices for improving student mathematics conceptual understanding.
- Understands the nature of differentiated instruction and applies this knowledge during instruction.
- Builds and maintains relationships with teachers and school administrators.
- Analyzes test data for instructional decision-making.
- Monitors student achievement and modifies instruction and intervention as needed.
- Collaborates with parents to create strong school-home partnerships.
- Informs parents of student progress on a regular basis.
- Assesses students on a frequent basis to determine and chart student progress.
- Collaborates with teachers and administrators about student progress.
- Maintains accurate and current records on student achievement.
- Collaborates with members of the Intervention Team to review the school’s Tier 2 and Tier 3 caseloads and assists with intervention decisions.
- Attends and participates in professional learning to improve and maintain knowledge of content and evidence-based instructional practices.
- Utilizes appropriate technology for instruction and data reporting.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)
- Bachelor’s degree with an endorsement in elementary education. Additional course work or certifications in math instruction preferred.
- Successful classroom teaching experience (5 years preferable). Experience providing instruction in an intervention setting preferred.
- Virginia teaching license or eligibility for licensure within 30 days of hire.
- Demonstrated evidence of active participation in school-based committees.
- In-depth knowledge of differentiated instructional practices, math content progressions, and math process goals and how to use them with students.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Demonstrated knowledge and use of a rich array of instructional approaches, resources, and technologies.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional growth.
- Demonstrated skills in analyzing and using data for instructional decision making.
- Demonstrated interpersonal, problem solving, and organizational skills required to effectively collaborate with others.
- Must possess a growth mindset and a solution focused attitude
- Possesses in-depth knowledge of mathematics curriculum and instructional practices preferred.

Performs duties under the supervision of the school administrators; receives instruction and support from the Building Math Specialist.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Highly complex duties: problem-solving, effectively analyzing data. Must have high tolerance for change and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues. Demanding schedule often includes meetings before and after school. Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling.
