Title: Food Service Assistant
Reports to: Chief Business Official, Executive Director
Classified: Non-Exempt
Primary Function:
Under the general supervision of the Chief Business Official, Executive Director, or designee: The Food Service Assistant supports the daily operation of the food service program in an efficient and effective manner to meet the nutritional needs of students and staff in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and health requirements. The Food Service Assistant performs food-related duties in a cooperative, sanitary, safe, and nutritious manner. Duties include, but are not limited to, food preparation, serving, clean-up, stocking, and assisting with basic recordkeeping.

Assists in the preparation, portioning, and service of meals in accordance with approved menus and meal requirements.

Follows established sanitation, food safety, and health procedures, including proper food handling and storage.

Sets up and maintains serving lines, workstations, and kitchen areas in a clean and organized manner.

Receives and stores food and supplies; checks deliveries for basic accuracy and quality.

Operates kitchen and point-of-sale equipment safely; serves as cashier as needed.

Assists with basic recordkeeping such as meal counts, production logs, and daily reports.

Cleans kitchen facilities, equipment, utensils, and service areas, including routine and deep cleaning tasks.

Stocks food, supplies, and service items as needed.

Reports equipment issues or supply needs to the supervisor.

Supports efforts to reduce food waste and maintain efficient operations.

Provides courteous and positive customer service to students and staff.

Performs other related duties as assigned to support the food service program.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of:

Basic food preparation and service methods

Food safety and sanitation practices

Safe operation of kitchen and food service equipment

Basic recordkeeping and point-of-sale procedures
Ability to:

Read, write, and perform basic math calculations

Prepare and serve food safely and efficiently

Maintain cleanliness and organization in work areas
Required Experience, Competencies and Education:

High school diploma or GED
-
Food Handler Certificate (ServSafe Food Handler or equivalent preferred/required)

Previous food service experience preferred

Valid California Driver’s License, if required
Physical Requirements:

Stand for extended periods of time.

Lift, carry, and push and/or pull items with a strength factor of medium work.

Exerting up to 50 pounds of force to lift, carry, push or otherwise move objects.

See at a level which allows reading of numbers and text, operation of equipment, inspection of machines, etc.
