The Eight Mile Location of Dixie Building Supply is in need of an additional Forklift Operator available immediately!  This location of Dixie Supply is a Hardware Store and Lumberyard location.  This is also one of our more active manufacturing locations; a lot of Metal and Metal Trim is picked up here!

We are seeking an experienced operator with good customer service skills.

Job Summary:

The Lumberyard Attendant is responsible for assisting customers with loading and unloading lumber, metal, and building materials, maintaining the organization and cleanliness of the yard, and safely operating equipment such as forklifts. This role ensures that materials are properly stored, stocked, and prepared for delivery or pickup.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist customers in locating, selecting, and loading lumber and building materials.

• Receive, unload, and stock shipments of lumber and other materials.

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized yard and storage area.

• Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment safely.

• Check and verify materials against invoices or delivery slips.

• Prepare customer orders for pickup or delivery.

• Inspect materials for damage or quality issues and report any discrepancies.

• Follow all safety procedures and company policies.

• Provide friendly and helpful service to customers and co-workers.

• Perform regular yard maintenance, including sweeping, snow removal, and minor repairs.

Responsibilities:

• Transport materials between various locations within the yard and loading areas.
• Assist delivery drivers with loading trucks
• Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate material handling and deliveries.
• Handle and organize materials in the yard as production is completed
• Perform regular inspections and maintenance checks on forklifts and equipment to ensure safe operation.
• Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

• Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
• Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent.

At least two years related experience with forklift required.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift to 100 pounds at times.

Must be able to climb onto and off forklift, requiring agility and balance.

Operators may need to stand and walk for extended periods, particularly when loading or unloading trucks or moving materials around lumberyard.

Must be able to work outside in heat and other weather.
