What are the responsibilities and job description for the Principal Product Designer position at Divorce.com?
Divorce.com is leading the charge toward a healthier, less traumatic divorce process. We offer couples a modern path to managing a divorce—one that’s guided, straightforward, and built to reduce the time, cost, and emotional toll that often comes with traditional attorney-first approaches.
We’re seeking a Principal Product Designer who operates at an expert level of experience and influence, someone who brings strategic depth, design excellence, and a sharp, independent point of view to every experience we build.
This is a defining role at Divorce.com. You will be instrumental in evolving our approach to design, setting the quality bar, and ensuring our user experience is guided, straightforward, and reduces the emotional toll of divorce. You'll work in close partnership to establish the design standard, champion user empathy, and lead key initiatives across our core product and marketing experiences. This is a role for a highly autonomous and impact-driven leader, someone who thrives in ambiguity, proactively proposes new paths forward, and confidently takes ideas from vision to execution.
Note: This is a high-level Individual Contributor (IC) role, focused on maximizing impact through execution and strategic direction, not people management.
You Will:
- Define and Own the Design Strategy: Act as the principal design voice, owning and articulating the holistic UX and visual strategy across product, brand, and marketing initiatives.
- Set and Enforce Standards: Inject a strong, expert point of view to audit, refine, and enforce the design system, ensuring it scales efficiently and reflects best-in-class UI/UX practices.
- Lead Conversion Design and Execution: Directly design, build, and launch high-converting marketing pages using Framer, ensuring speed, brand consistency, and seamless handoff from the acquisition funnel.
- Drive Strategic Improvement: Identify friction points in user flows and independently execute high-leverage design iterations that drive measurable business results and enhance the user journey.
- Establish Research Practice: Define and implement lightweight, effective user research and usability testing methodologies, ensuring design decisions are grounded in user empathy and data.
- Collaborate and Mentor: Partner closely with Product Management and Engineering leaders, acting as the design expert to translate high-level strategy into actionable, shippable solutions.
You Have:
- 5 years of progressive product design experience, with substantial time spent operating in autonomous, high-impact roles.
- A proven track record of leading complex, high-stakes initiatives and influencing cross-functional outcomes, ideally within a mission-driven or regulated environment.
- A portfolio that showcases visionary thinking, crisp visual execution, and a history of contributing to or governing design systems.
- Expert ability to work independently, proposing ideas, framing opportunities, and guiding work with minimal day-to-day direction.
- Fluency and proven expertise in both Figma and Framer
- Strong knowledge of the technical constraints and possibilities in front-end development.
