Position: Substitute Bus Aide
Position Summary:
Performs basic human support work assisting with the transportation of pupils to and
from school and special events, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the close
supervision of the Bus Driver.
Contract: Part Time
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Minimum Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential
function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability
required.
Essential Functions:
? Assists with loading, transporting and unloading students on the assigned bus.
? Assists students with special transportation needs such as wheelchairs, braces, crutches, etc.; secures students
who are in wheelchairs or in car seats/harnesses.
? Assists with the security of students on school buses; observes the special needs of individuals.
? Assists the driver in maintaining adequate discipline on the bus.
? Performs related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Some knowledge of the transportation of students; ability to assist students with patience and understanding; good
physical and mental health; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, parents,
students and the general public; ability to work in all makes and models with and/or without climate control.
Education and Experience:
Less than a high school education and minimal experience working with children, or equivalent combination of
education and experience.
Physical Requirements:
Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work at the work site
daily, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight
(up to 50 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Sensory
Requirements: Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination; Hearing is required to perceive
information at normal spoken word levels; Most tasks require oral communications ability. Environmental Factors:
Tasks are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen,
odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents,
traffic hazards, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances. Work is
generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, playground, classroom, light traffic).
