MIDDLESEX COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Position: Grounds Maintenance Technician
Contract: 12 Month / 261 Days
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Minimum Qualifications:
A high school diploma or GED certificate.
Ability to operate all vehicle types used in the division.
Demonstrated an ability to do skilled automotive mechanical work, on gas and diesel vehicles.
Ability to maintain good working relationships with other employees.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain school grounds including mowing, trimming, edging, mulching, and seasonal cleanup
- Perform routine inspections of buildings and grounds; identify maintenance needs and address them proactively
- Complete minor and general repairs in areas such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems
- Assist with and carry out preventative maintenance tasks independently
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot grounds and maintenance equipment
- Respond to maintenance requests in a timely and efficient manner with limited supervision
- Set up and break down equipment for school events
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work environment
- Report major repair needs or safety concerns to supervisors
- Assist other maintenance or school staff when needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:
- Strong ability to work independently and manage time effectively without direct supervision
- Self-starter with the ability to identify problems and take initiative to resolve them
- Working knowledge of one or more skilled trades (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or similar) strongly desired
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and grounds equipment
- Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and respond to changing needs
- Effective communication skills
Education and Experience:
A high school diploma or GED certificate.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and climbing
- Ability to operate equipment for extended periods
