Fitter/Welder

Location: West Columbia, SC
Job Type: Full-Time | Direct Hire
Schedule: Monday–Thursday | 6:00 AM–4:00 PM (4x10 Schedule)
Pay: $28–$36/hour, based on experience and skill level

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Fitter/Welder to join a growing industrial manufacturing team in West Columbia, SC. This position is ideal for a skilled welder/fabricator who is comfortable working from blueprints, performing layout and fit-up, tack welding, and completing final welds on large industrial components and assemblies.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on welding and fabrication experience, excellent blueprint-reading skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

What You'll Do

  • Perform metal fabrication, fitting, assembly, and welding according to blueprints and specifications.
  • Lay out, fit, tack weld, and assemble structural metal components.
  • Complete final welds while maintaining proper alignment, dimensions, and tolerances.
  • Fabricate and repair piping systems, fuel tanks, and other metal components as assigned.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, mechanical drawings, and work instructions.
  • Use measuring tools such as squares, rulers, tape measures, and other precision equipment to verify dimensions.
  • Work with jigs, fixtures, and other fabrication tools.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure it meets required specifications and quality standards.
  • Identify and correct fit-up, alignment, welding, and fabrication issues.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area and follow all safety procedures.
  • Work efficiently while maintaining high-quality workmanship.

What We're Looking For

  • 3–5 years of hands-on welding and fabrication experience.
  • Strong fitting and welding skills.
  • Experience with MIG, TIG, Stick, Flux-Cored, or other applicable welding processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and welding symbols.
  • Experience with layout, fit-up, tack welding, and final welding.
  • Ability to work with large metal components and industrial equipment.
  • Strong understanding of measurements, alignment, tolerances, and distortion control.
  • Ability to troubleshoot welding and fitting issues.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • High school diploma and/or technical or trade training preferred.
  • Associate degree or technical school training is a plus.

Important Hiring Process

An onsite weld test is required to be considered for this position.

Candidates will also complete a paper/technical test as part of the hiring process. The testing and interview process will take place onsite and may take approximately 2.5 hours total.

Please note:

  • Candidates must bring their own welding helmet for the weld test.
  • Steel-toed shoes are required at the facility.
  • Candidates must successfully complete the weld test to move forward in the hiring process.
