General Summary:
Responsible for operating and maintaining advanced structured light scanning equipment to perform dimensional analysis and quality control inspections. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of digital data, supports reverse engineering projects, and produces detailed inspection reports to meet internal and client quality standards.
Position Responsibilities:
· Operate blue and white light structured-light scanning systems to capture high-resolution 3D data of manufactured parts and assemblies, and tool surfaces.
· Use specialized software (SMIRT/GOM/CAD) to compare scanned point-cloud data to original CAD models. Identify and document any deviations or dimensional discrepancies.
· Prepare clear, concise, and professional inspection reports detailing measurement results, analysis findings, and any identified quality issues for internal review and customer distribution.
· Perform routine calibration and maintenance of scanning equipment to ensure accuracy and optimal performance.
· Work closely with quality, and manufacturing team to communicate results, resolve quality issues, and provide technical guidance.
· Follow established procedures and work instructions to ensure all scanning tasks meet required quality criteria. Identify and report any non-conformances.
Qualifications and Skills:
· Strong understanding of 3D scanning principles and experience operating structured-light scanners. Knowledge of both blue and white technologies is a plus.
· Experience with 3D scanning and metrology software such as SMIRT, GOM, and other industry-standard applications.
· Familiarity with CAD and SMIRT 3D software and the ability to interpret technical drawings and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
· Meticulous approach to quality assurance, with a focus on capturing accurate data and producing detailed reports.
· Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to diagnose scanning challenges and identify the root cause of quality issues.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time hourly position ranging between hours per week based on workload. Regular work week is Monday through Friday. Saturdays and Sundays are scheduled based on workload of the shop.
Work Environment:
This job operates in a shop floor environment. This role routinely uses large machines and tools throughout the shop floor.
Preferred Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Certification or degree in technical field preferred
- 2 years' experience operating laser equipment
- Prior experience in a manufacturing environment
- Familiarity with Quality Management Systems
