Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Development Engineer – Terminals to lead the design and development of terminal systems from concept through production. This role is responsible for developing innovative, manufacturable solutions while collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure products meet customer, quality, and performance requirements. The ideal candidate will possess strong terminal system design expertise, metallurgical knowledge, and hands-on experience with product development processes in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of terminal system products from concept through production launch.
- Develop 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, dimensional stack-ups, and design proposals.
- Conduct Design of Experiments (DOE) and prototype evaluations to validate product performance.
- Prepare and maintain Design Failure Mode & Effects Analyses (DFMEAs).
- Select appropriate materials based on performance, manufacturability, and cost requirements.
- Coordinate and review Finite Element Analysis (FEA) results and implement design improvements.
- Provide engineering support to manufacturing by applying Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including service manuals and engineering specifications.
- Support customer and internal engineering drawing releases while ensuring compliance with applicable standards.
- Lead a team of designers and laboratory technicians to achieve project objectives, schedules, and design targets.
- Follow Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) processes and maintain complete project documentation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional and global engineering teams to drive successful product development and launch activities.
- Effectively communicate technical information, project status, and engineering recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Experience developing terminal system products, including design attributes and applicable industry specifications.
- Strong understanding of metallurgy related to terminal design, including plating processes and joining/termination methods for dissimilar metals.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as CATIA V5, SolidWorks, or Siemens NX (UG). Candidates must be able to effectively utilize CAD for product design and design reviews.
- Knowledge of component design for progressive die stamping and plastic injection molding, including cavity development.
- Experience supporting or performing engineering drawing releases for customers and internal stakeholders.
- Familiarity with FEA, DFMEA, DOE, and product validation methodologies.
- Understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles.
- Experience working within APQP and structured product development processes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the automotive, electrical connector, or terminal manufacturing industry.
- Knowledge of customer-specific engineering standards and product validation requirements.
- Experience supporting new product launches and manufacturing transitions.
