We are seeking a special education resource teacher to provide direct instruction to students, some of whom have been identified for special education instructional services. This teacher will help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their social, emotional, behavioral, and academic development. THRIVE’s Special Education teachers play an enormous role in advancing the mission, vision, and values of our school. Our Special Education teachers hold a deep belief in the potential of all students, and they deliver the high-quality instruction that each student needs. They regularly reflect on student growth and ensure Individual Education Programs (IEPs) are appropriately executed across a continuum of settings. They also reflect on their own growth and progress, and collaborate with staff as well as the adults in their students’ lives to achieve the best outcomes for each student.

- Meets and instructs assigned classes/students in inclusive and separate settings and for the time as designated in the IEP and by the school administrator.
- Provides direct instruction to students to meet the specified IEP annual goals and short term objectives for each student, as well as the general curriculum goals and objectives.
- Documents and communicates student progress to parents, regular classroom teachers, and other appropriate personnel.
- Participates in parent-teacher conferences.
- Ensures an orderly learning environment through effective teaching and management practices.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques to address the needs and capabilities of the individual or students involved.
- Teaches approved curriculum.
- Provides individualized and small group instruction.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
- Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
- Collects, maintains and records on-going data and records on each student for progress monitoring for quarterly reporting, reevaluation, and instructional decision-making.
- Utilizes data, including pre and post assessments, to inform instruction and impact the IEP.
- Participates in interdisciplinary staffing/conferences with school, appropriate community personnel and parents, and students when appropriate.
- Develops and implements on an ongoing basis the Individual Education Plan for each student assigned to the special education programs.
- Actively seeks out services and related services staff necessary to assist in meeting the IEP goals and objectives for individual students.
- Plans and participates in each student’s annual review/IEP meeting, including preparation of a draft IEP in the electronic IEP system, completion of progress notes with data in previous goals.
- Provides the necessary record keeping documents as required by the Federal, State, district rules and regulations/policies and procedures.
- Identifies student needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans.
- Establishes and maintains an effective working relationship with building administrators, other building teachers, and related services personnel and support personnel.
- Communicates regularly with parents outside normal classroom day by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.
- Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.

- Learn alongside our team as we grow our school and adapt to its evolving needs.

- Implement our evidence-based, standards-aligned, and culturally and linguistically responsive shared curriculum with fidelity.
- Differentiate instruction to accommodate various learning needs, including students with exceptionalities.
- Engage in professional growth and development, including individualized coaching and feedback, large-group sessions, and self-reflection, and implement lessons learned within their classrooms.
- Compile, maintain, and reflect on student data and leverage it to drive improvements in instruction and outcomes.
- Participate in school-wide activities and procedures, such as arrival/dismissal, meal and recess duty, and community engagement events.
Potential teaching candidates must meet the following requirements in order to receive an offer from our team:
- Bachelor’s degree
- New Mexico state special education teaching licensure in the appropriate content area
- Criminal background clearance
- Authorization to work in the United States
We have seen that candidates with one or more of the additional qualifications below are uniquely positioned to support our students to succeed:
- Experience in economically disadvantaged schools, especially if in Special Education
- Knowledge of New Mexico Common Core and Content Standards
- Knowledge of the Science of Reading
- TESOL Certification and/or bilingualism
- Experience with Direct Instruction and Social-Emotional Learning
- Strong understanding of educational technology and tools
Salary Range
Based on education, experience, and level of NM Teaching License.
- Level 1 License: $57,368
- Level 2 License: $68,832
- Level 3 License: $80,421
