Job Title: Receptionist/Secretary for a Busy Medical Examiner's Office
The Districts 5 & 24 Medical Examiner Receptionist/Secretary provides front office support for the Medical Examiner's Office through telephone reception, documentation, coordination, and communication.
Duties and Responsibilities
a. Answers multi-line telephone, screens and routes calls.
b. Utilizes computer database to retrieve decedent information.
c. Upload release forms into the database and complete the front of the case file.
d. Complete paperwork for the release of bodies to funeral homes.
e. Log remote cases into the morgue log-book.
f. Complete death certificates through the Florida EDRS.
g. Assist with the request medical records as needed by investigators and pathologists.
h. Assign cremation authorization numbers to funeral homes as needed.
i. Perform other clerical or secretarial duties as required.

a. Professional and courteous telephone communication and etiquette.
b. Establish and maintain professional and courteous relationships with coworkers and members of other departments, law enforcement agencies and organizations.
c. Word processing, data entry and file management.
d. Operation of office equipment.
e. Possess proficiency for using computers.
f. Proficiency in English grammar, spelling, punctuation, general math, and medical terminology.
g. Follow oral and written instructions.
h. Organize and prioritize duties.
i. Accept and provide direction and criticism in a constructive manner.
j. Recognize stages of grief experienced by survivors of deceased.
k. Promote a spirit of teamwork and maintain positive communication between coworkers so that details are not overlooked:
l. Deal objectively with the emotional stress generated by dealing with death and grieving families on a daily basis.
2. Education, Training and Experience
High school degree or equivalent and either:
i. Two (2) years receptionist, clerical, or secretarial experience with basic computer knowledge or
ii. One (1) year receptionist, clerical, or secretarial experience with basic computer knowledge and successful completion of formal post high school business related course work.
This is a Monday-Friday position. The hours are 7:30 AM-4:30 PM with 1 hour for lunch (unpaid). Weekends and specified holidays off.
