What are the responsibilities and job description for the SUBSTITUTE TEACHER position at District Wide?
REPORTS TO: Principal
PURPOSE: Fill in when a teacher/instructional assistant needs to be absent from their position.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Substitute teachers perform the instructional and classroom management processes for teachers who are absent for a day or longer periods of time. Their duties include taking attendance, explaining homework, and maintaining classroom cleanliness. Candidates need to be flexible in their availability.
Substitute Teacher Responsibilities:
- Adhere to the curriculum and lesson plans assigned by the regular teacher.
- Follow procedures and achieve lesson goals.
- Assign and explain homework.
- Oversee students outside of the classroom, including in the hallways and cafeteria.
- Comply with all school regulations and policies at all times.
- Take attendance and document daily notes.
- Ensure classroom and work is kept clean and orderly.
- Oversee the normal classroom routines and activities.
- Compile a report for the teacher for when he/she returns.
Substitute Teacher Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Certificate in teaching or substitute teaching.
- Bachelor's degree in teaching or a minimum of 2 years experience in a similar role preferred.
- Must be detail oriented and able to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
The following are the substitute teacher and long-term substitute teacher pay rates:
Non Certified - $112.50 per day
Certified (Expired License or other State) - $112.50 per day, long-term $112.50
Student Teacher with Pending License - $112.50 per day, long-term $112.50
Certified with active License - $116.00 per day, long-term $168.00
