Substitute Nurse - $120.00/Day

 

Summary

Nurse Substitutes are responsible for providing appropriate immediate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured students and to serve as a healthcare resource to teachers, staff, and administrators.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

An individual who holds this position is required to:

  1. Administers first aid, medication and specialized medical treatments (e.g. oral suctioning, catheterization, etc.) for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured children.
  2. Assesses situations involving students' health-related issues (e.g. safety, abuse: physical, sexual, or drug, etc.) for the purpose of identifying problems, referring for proper treatment and complying with legal requirements.
  3. Collaborates with a variety of individuals and groups (e.g. parents, students, health care providers, and/or public agencies, etc.) for the purpose of promoting and/or securing student health services; providing information and complying with legal requirements.
  4. Monitors students referred (e.g. illness and/or injury, etc.) for the purpose of attending to immediate health care concerns and initiating follow-up care.
  5. Monitors students with chronic illnesses for the purpose of assisting the child in achieving the highest possible functional level.
  6. Responds to emergency medical situations (e.g. severe falls, prescription reactions, bleeding, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring appropriate immediate medical attention and related follow-up action
  7. Maintain confidentiality as defined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  8. Demonstrate the ability to adapt to circumstances. Exhibit good judgment and use appropriate language or behavior while on assignment.
  9. Remain on duty for the entire assignment.
  10. Leave detailed notes for the nurse on any issues experienced during the day.
  11. Adhere to all the policies, procedures and regulations of the building and district.

An individual who holds this position must have the ability to:

  1. Read, analyze and interpret professional journals, Board policy, administrative procedures and forms and governmental regulations and guidance.
  2. Complete forms, write reports and engage in written correspondence.
  3. Present information effectively and respond to questions.

Computation

An individual who holds this position must have the ability to:

  1. Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  2. Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning

An individual who holds this position must have the ability to:

  1. Solve a variety of problems in many different situations.
  2. Interpret instructions presented in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Other Skills and Abilities

An individual who holds this position must have the ability to:

  1. Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents.
  2. Perform multiple tasks simultaneously.

Technology

An individual who holds this position must have the ability to:

  1. Perform basic computer functions such as word processing and internet use
  2. Use district software for recording grades and finding student information.
