Basic Function |
|
The Athletic Trainer is a licensed healthcare professional who supports student success by reducing health-related barriers to learning and safe participation in athletics. This role provides specialized medical care to student-athletes within the established scope of practice, including injury prevention, emergency response, clinical evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation and return-to-play planning. The Athletic Trainer maintains accurate and confidential medical records in accordance with district policy and applicable regulations and works collaboratively with physicians, school administrators, coaches and families to promote the health, safety and well-being of all student- athletes. |

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES |
|
Lead and manage a comprehensive athletic training program for high school athletics. |
|
Responsible for training and supervising student athletic trainers. Also responsible for scheduling student trainers for athletic contests and practices (if applicable). |
|
Provide injury prevention, emergency care, clinical evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation and reconditioning for student-athletes. Facilitate appropriate physician referrals when necessary. |
|
Maintain ongoing communication with the team physician and other healthcare providers regarding injury evaluation, treatment plans and return-to-play decisions. |
|
Collaborate with coaching staffs to support the development and implementation of safe, sport- specific conditioning programs, ensuring compliance with established medical and safety guidelines. |
|
Responsible for the organization, inventory and requisition of all training room supplies. Requisitions for medical equipment and/or supplies must be submitted to the Athletic Administrator. Additionally, the athletic trainer will submit an annual budget for all first aid and medical supplies for the year. |
|
Provide athletic training coverage for home practices and athletic events throughout the academic year, including fall, winter and spring sports seasons. When scheduling conflicts arise, the athletic trainer and the athletic director will consult to determine direct coverage vs indirect coverage. |
|
Shall be available in the athletic training room after school each day to treat student-athletes. |
|
Will promote district planned physical opportunities and track/monitor sports physicals and will ensure athletes are ready for play. |
|
Responsibilities will extend to providing athletic training supervision at all other major home events, district tournaments, regional tournaments, etc. when the athletic trainer’s team is playing. In the event that extra coverage is needed or requested at major home events, district tournaments, regional tournaments, etc. and the host athletic trainers team is not playing, the pay will be as follows: $30 per hour |

Manage and maintain an organized, safe and compliant athletic training facility, including adherence to documentation, sanitation and equipment standards. |
|
Promote a safe athletic environment by monitoring environmental conditions (e.g., heat, weather( lightning, thunder, rain) as well as field conditions) and implementing established safety and emergency action protocols established by the KHSAA and NFHS. |
|
Responsible for reporting all injuries to the athletic office on the proper forms and keeping an annual record of athletic injuries. Responsible for completing athletic injury reports, using the established tracking tools, and providing those to the appropriate personnel. |
