This position may be a certified for classified position based on candidate credentials. Candidates with valid Kentucky teaching certification with proper endorsement in Communication Disorders should apply via this certified job posting.  Candidates who are graduates of an accredited college with a degree in Communication Disorders that hold current licensure from the Kentucky Board of Speech Language Pathology should apply via the classified job posting for this position.

Requirements

  • Valid Kentucky Teaching Certification with proper endorsement in Communication Disorders or other legal alternative credential
  • Possess or be eligible for a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA), or be eligible to participate as an ASHA Clinical Fellow (CFY). 

Position Summary and Goal

Screen, assess and identify students with communication disorders that adversely affect their education progress.  Develop and provide direct and indirect services within the student’s education setting, based on established IEP goals and objectives.

Principal, Director of Special Education or Designee

 

Performance Responsibilities

  • Provides diagnostic services and therapy to students with individual needs in regards to communication disorders.
  • Writes comprehensive evaluation summary reports and keeps ongoing records for individual students receiving therapy.
  • Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring children with suspected communication disorders.
  • Assists the Admissions and Release Committee in interpreting educational assessment results, developing Individualized Education Plans and determining appropriate services as needed.
  • Creates and maintains a classroom environment that supports high academic expectations, and is conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the district.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of acceptable classroom behavior.
  • Employs a variety of instructional strategies, including a variety of instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the locations provided and the capabilities and needs of the students involved.
  • Communicates with students, families, caregivers and other service providers relative to the student’s disability and its management.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Identifies and assesses the learning needs of the students and evaluates student progress on a regular basis.
  • Maintains complete and accurate records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
  • Keeps abreast of instructional and technological advances and other matters concerning speech-language therapy and provides training to other professionals and paraprofessionals as needed.
  • Attends and participates fully in faculty meetings.
  • Collaborates with other staff members in planning instructional goals, objectives and methods; establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others including assisting in the development of classroom activities to meet the communication needs of the students.
  • Provides for his or her own professional growth in accordance with state and federal regulation.
  • Accepts a shared responsibility for co-curricular activities.
  • Maintains regular, punctual attendance during regularly scheduled work hours.
  • Meets the Standards and Indicators set forth in the Certified Personnel Evaluation Plan.
  • Abides by the Professional Code of Ethics for Kentucky Certified School Personnel.
  • Adheres to the requirements of the District and school employee handbook, Glasgow Board of Education Policies, and all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Performs any other functions deemed necessary by the immediate supervisor that are reasonable and covered by local board policy or law.
