Special Education Teacher-Inclusion

                                                             

 

Classification:             Certified

 

Location:                     P-12

 

 

Summary:

Special education teacher providing services to students with disabilities in the general education classroom. The teacher will provide specialized instruction to students as well as collaborate with general education staff to plan and present lessons, create assessments, and ensure sure the needs of all students are met.

 

Reports to: 

 

Exceptional Students Program Director and School Administrators

 

 Qualifications:           

  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Have passed the Special Education course(s) required by the state to meet Highly Qualified requirements for the State of Georgia.    
  • Must hold a valid, current Clear Renewable certificate
  • Previous teaching experience preferred.

 The required certification is one of the following:

  1. Early Childhood Special Education (P-5) valid for elementary school only
  2. Special Education General Curriculum (P-12) valid for all schools.

Although not required, certification in Special Education Academic Content Concentrations (Language Arts, Reading, Mathematics, Social Science, Science) is preferred.

 General Duties and Expectations:

  • Provide specialized instruction within the general education classroom;
  • Assist general education staff in developing and modifying the curriculum to meet the learning style and needs of the children with disabilities;
  • Employ a range of effective instructional practices addressing various learning styles to give students the support they need to learn and meet standards;
  • Regularly analyze student achievement data and modify current instructional practices as appropriate to accelerate students’ academic achievement;
  • Collaborate with staff to improve your own and others’ instructional practices;
  • Accept a share of responsibility for extra/co-curricular activities assigned;
  • Demonstrate accurate and up-to-date knowledge of content and implement designated curriculum;
  • Maintain lesson plans as required by school policy; prepare instructional aides and supplemental teaching materials;
  • Work closely with parents and guardians and act as a liaison between home and school;
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Program (IEP) and other required special education documents;
  • Maintain accurate, complete and appropriate records and files;
  • Comply with IDEA and GADOE rules, regulations and procedures as well as with local policies and procedures;
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing;
  • Attend and participate in staff development, committee and other meetings relevant to teaching, some of which may occur beyond the regular school day;
  • Behavior management;
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance
  • Maintain a professional appearance as appropriate for job responsibilities
  • Comply with conditions as stated in contract
