Special Education Paraprofessional
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates degree, 60 college credit hours, or passing score on ParaPro Praxis exam
- Ability to work with students with disabilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Provide individual or small group instruction.
- Assist in implementing behavior management activities.
- Perform clerical duties which may include collection and recording of data, preparing classroom materials, and entering data into a computer program.
- Assist with feeding, toileting, daily living skills, and physical activities, such as lifting and transferring students to and from wheelchairs.
- Attend conferences, as deemed appropriate/necessary.
- Attend appropriate training sessions. If applicable, annually obtain specified number of professional development hours.
- Use, with proper training, assistive technology devices.
- Accompany student to general education classroom, cafeteria, playground, restroom, and or other locations on the school campus.
- Participate in community based instruction activities.
- Conduct student programing assessments and/or screenings, per instrument administration guidelines/evaluator qualifications.
- Other duties as assigned.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Must have the ability to lift at least 40 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to endure prolonged standing, walking, sitting, kneeling, occasional reaching above the head or the shoulders, bending, squatting.
