LOCATION:     District-Wide

HOURS:          Up to 7.00 hours per day

SALARY:         $25.00/hour

JOB SUMMARY:

     The position of School Psychologist Intern works under the supervision of an ESA certified school psychologist. They provide evaluation, consultation, and intervention services for students suspected of, or who qualify as, needing special education services. 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide formal assessment of student's abilities, learning styles, academic achievement, emotional development, aptitute, and/or social skills. 
• Observe effects of the classroom environment on the student(s). 
• Apply the information obtained into an accurate and useful overview of the student's functional ability to determine eligibility for special education services. 
• Assist student(s) in developing appropriate problem-solving skills through individual or small group counseling.
• Participate in pre-referral and IEP team meetings that develop and monitor an individual program for student(s).
• Conduct functional behavior assessments, development, implementation and evaluation of individual programs. 
• Consult with staff and/or administration regarding special education law as it relates to eligibility for special education services and disciplinary requirements for special education students.
• Provide recommendations for outside agencies and professionals as needed. 
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators and/or parents regarding the student(s) learning achivement, social/emotional development and individual needs to include stregths and limitations.
• Write evaluation reports and maintains additional required documentation through the appropriate student information system(s). 
• Participate in District meetings to communicate information and gain feedback and/or direction on a variety of issues.
• Distribute documents and materials to appropriate staff, students and/or parents.

NON-ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist other personnel as may be required to support them with the completion of their work activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Two years graduate level work in a university school psychology program.*
• Prior job-related experience preferred but not required.
• Bilingual and/or Biliterate (Spanish), preferred but not required.
• Experience working in a K-12 setting preferred but not required.

*This internship is designed to fulfill requirements to complete a graduate level psychology program and to obtain certification.

• Knowledge and ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
• Ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.
• Knowledge of basic computer programs, data entry, and typing.
