Facilities Supervisor - Custodial Services

 

Reports To:  Facilities Director and Business Administrator 

Supervises:  Custodial Staff

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or facilities management certification preferred. 
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of custodial or facilities experience, including supervisory responsibilities. 
  • Strong knowledge of custodial practices, cleaning chemicals, and equipment operation. 
  • Knowledge of workplace safety standards and regulations. 
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently. 
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications such as email, scheduling, and inventory systems. 
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds and perform physical tasks as required. 

General Description:  The Facilities Department is responsible for overseeing all District building and grounds and daily custodial operations to ensure a clean, safe, and well-maintained environment. This role supervises custodial staff, coordinates cleaning schedules, monitors supply inventory, and ensures compliance with health and safety standards. The Facilities Supervisor works closely with management, vendors, and building occupants to maintain high standards of cleanliness and operational efficiency.

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience managing custodial services in schools, healthcare, commercial, or industrial facilities. 
  • Bilingual communication skills are a plus. 
  • Experience with floor care equipment, carpet extraction, and sanitation procedures. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate daily activities of custodial staff. 
  • Confer with the Facilities Director and Building Principals and keep them informed on matters relating to the overall health, safety, and operating conditions of their associated buildings and grounds
  • Train custodial staff on proper cleaning procedures, equipment use, and safety protocols 
  • Inspect facilities regularly to ensure cleanliness and maintenance standards are met. 
  • Monitor inventory levels of cleaning supplies and equipment; order supplies as needed. 
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, safety, and sanitation regulations. 
  • Respond promptly to custodial emergencies, spills, and facility-related concerns. 
  • Maintain records of inspections, employee performance, and supply usage. 
  • Develop and implement cleaning procedures that improve efficiency and service quality. 
  • Conduct employee evaluations and provide coaching or corrective action as needed. 

Working Conditions

  • May require evenings, weekends, or on-call availability. 
  • Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments. 
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting required.

  • Promote a positive and productive work environment. 
  • Ensure timely completion of custodial tasks and projects. 
  • Reduce safety incidents and improve operational efficiency.

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to bend, sit, move about, hear and speak.  May be required to work in restricted spaces to include crawling and/or climbing stairs, ladders and dealing with heights.  Required to stand, be on feet and move around for a full work shift
  • Ability to work using ladders, scaffolding, mechanical lifts and District vehicles.  Ability to spend most of the work day standing, lifting and walking.  Ability to lift up to 60 pounds and move heavier materials using appropriate equipment. Required to properly use safety equipment to prevent injury to self or others

 

Terms of Employment:  Full-time, 12-month position, 2nd Shift

Salary:  $70,000 - $90,000

Evaluation:  Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of support services.
