Position Title:  School Social Worker

Must have a Nebraska teaching permit with proper endorsement.

New Certified Staff are offered a one-time salary advance opportunity to increase their August paycheck. We want to assist in all ways possible through the transition into the teaching profession.

 

Paid Leave: 4 Personal Days; 9 Sick Days; 5 Bereavement Days; Civic Leave; and Professional Leave as determined by administrators. Certified staff also administer a Sick Leave Bank that all certified staff are eligible to join on an annual basis. Teachers who are parents or guardians of an FPS student can also use up to 4 sick days, per year, to attend FPS-sponsored activities for their child.

 

Retirement: FPS is a member of the Nebraska Public Employee Retirement System - a defined benefit pension plan.

 

FPS provides all certified team members long term disability, a $10,000 individual life insurance policy, and quarterly perfect attendance bonus opportunities.

JOB TITLE: School Social Worker

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education Level:

  • Bachelor of Social Work
  • Master of Social Work Preferred

Certification/Licensure:

  • Nebraska Certified Social Worker or Certified Master Social Worker

Experience Desired:

  • Successful  Work Experience in Schools or Social Services

Other Requirements:

  • Knowledge of Juvenile Justice and Child Welfare Systems

 

REPORTS TO:  Director of Student Services

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The essential functions of each employee’s position includes (1) regular, dependable in-person attendance on the job; (2) the ability to perform the identified tasks and to possess and utilize the identified knowledge, skills, and abilities and to perform the identified work activities; and (3) the ability to perform the physical requirements on their specific job description.



Basic: 

To promote a working relationship of trust and mutual respect between school and home; work with community agencies concerned with the welfare of students; create situations and find solutions to individual student’s problems which will maximize that student’s chances for success in school and life in general.

 

Frequent:

  1. Accept referrals from administrators and counselors regarding students who are unable to function in a normal classroom situation because of behavioral, emotional, or family-related problems
  2. Discuss such referrals with administrators, counselors, teachers, and others knowledgeable about the situation. Interview the student and/or parent, when possible, in order to get an accurate understanding of the situation
  3. When needed, make home visits in order to discuss the problem and possible solutions with the parents
  4. Bring parents and school officials together in order to address concerns and develop possible solutions
  5. Discuss results of home visits with school staff members when appropriate
  6. Work within a multi-tiered system of support to provide short-term counseling and intervention services as appropriate for the students and/or families referred
  7. Assist teachers, counselors, and administrators in planning special programs within the school for the student
  8. Assist school personnel and parents in making referrals to suitable helping agencies when necessary
  9. Keep records of involvement with the student and share the information with appropriate individuals in order to promote further understanding of the problem
  10. Maintain and up-to-date listing and knowledge of resources available to students and their families within the community
  11. Establish continuous communication with the various agencies within the community which provide services to students, always endeavoring to coordinate school efforts with outside efforts to help the student
  12. Perform the legal functions of an attendance officer as required
  13. Maintain an understanding of the policies and procedures regarding mandatory reporting of child abuse and neglect
  14. Act as a liaison between school personnel, law enforcement, and child protective service agencies concerning issues regarding child abuse and neglect
  15. Assume other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the administrator or Superintendent
