Job Summary:

Provide safe transportation for district students to and from various destinations.

Qualifications:

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Operate vehicle responsibly at all times.
• Complete inspection of the school bus as prescribed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania including clearing obstructions and wiping lenses of lights. Reports all irregularities to the yard person.
• Maintain student discipline on the bus according to school bus rules. Reports infractions to the Building Principal and the Director of Transportation.
• Maintain school bus routing schedule.
• Safely operate all equipment provided within a school bus, including all doors, windows, emergency equipment, radios, read and understand gauge indicators, operate standard shift and automatic transmissions, exc.
• Attend in-service workshops and other department meetings scheduled by the Director of Transportation.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.

• Ability to work in an external environment subject to temperatures below 32 degrees or above 100 degrees
• May be exposed to atmospheric conditions that include fumes and dust
• Must be cooperative, congenial, and service-oriented
• Must be able to work in an environment with frequent interruptions
• Ability to follow written and verbal directions
• Ability to read and write
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Ability to organize tasks   
• Ability to exercise good judgment
• Ability to read and understand maps
• Ability to work well with students

Education & Experience:

• You MUST have a valid Pennsylvania CDL Driver's License with Passenger (P) and Student (S) endorsement with air break restriction lifted. Willing to train a PA CDL Driver's License holder for (S) and (P) endorsement and air break restriction lifted.
• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Driving record must be free of tickets and accidents.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to reach above and below the waist
• Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects
• Ability to use both hands for repetitive motion
• Ability to bend, twist, kneel, stoop, climb, and crawl
• Ability to lift/carry supplies weighing 50 lbs. or more
• Ability to drive up to eighty percent (80%) of workday

Level of Compensation:

This position's salary is determined by the collective bargaining plan for Support Staff employees. The starting salary for this position is $27.41/hour. After the completion of the 90-day probationary period, this position is eligible for a raise to bring the salary to $27.91/hour.
