SUPERVISES
Educational Assistant for Special Programs and students, either directly or indirectly.
JOB GOALS
To provide special education services, plan programs, and ensure that all state and federal laws, negotiated contracts, board policy, and district administrative regulations about special education program(s) are adhered to by students, staff, parents, and the community by communicating, interpreting, and implementing laws, policies, and rules to all involved. Consultation and management of private school SPED students is required as part of the job duties.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide special education service and support to staff members and students.
- Establish a district student referral system.
- Maintain special education forms on the computer
- Maintain a database for students served in special education programs
- Instruct staff on the use of the forms and database and how to access them.
- Design and supervise individual student behavior contracts, IEPs, 504 accommodation plans, and ISPs
- Assist with student testing during the evaluation process, classroom, and state testing.
- Provide training to staff on a variety of topics related to special education.
- Assume case management duties for all eligible students (ie, conduct annual meetings)
- Provide in-service on specific students to help staff members with individual student learning needs.
- Maintain all district special education files, state reporting requirements, and data collection.
- Assess modified regular classroom instruction provided to students.
- Guide in modifying regular classroom instruction to special education qualified students.
- Work with parents of special education students.
- Attend/Communicate with neighboring districts where students are placed, and attend IEP meetings
ADDITIONAL TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary, benefits, working hours, and several contract days established by the Superintendent in consultation with other school administration and in accordance with District policy.
- Full-time position
- Special Ed Teachers manage an average caseload of 32 students
- Provide Special Education services (virtual and/or face-to-face) per the IEP
- Demonstrate knowledge of specialized methodology for teaching students with disabilities
- Demonstrate knowledge of specialized curriculum
- Demonstrate knowledge of Assistive Technologies
- Facilitate IEP Teams for students with special needs
- Write and implement student IEPs
- Compile and Maintain Special Education Compliant Files
- Conduct assessments as needed for special education eligibility
- Monitor and report progress toward IEP Goals and Objectives
- Complete all activities required for compliance with IDEA
- Maintain accurate special education records
- Submit required reports and documentation to the administration
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of TieNet and PowerSchool policies and procedures
- Develop positive relationships with teachers, students, and parents
- Keep detailed documentation from parent/student conferences
- Alert administrators of any concerns about student progress and/or truancy
- Serve as test administrators for site-based proctored standardized testing
- Participate in the school's self-evaluation program
- Lead parent orientations during late summer and early fall (and for small groups)
- Create personal Professional Development Projects
- Assist with various projects throughout the year with colleagues and administration, as needed
- Participate in staff conference calls during the school year
- Display knowledge of RTI/MTSS preferred
- Collaborate with specialists from ESD (ie ASD consultant, vision specialist, speech-language specialist)
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree with current special education endorsement
- Shared view of the school's mission
- Strong working knowledge of IDEA requirements
Salary : $50,501 - $87,167
