2025-2026 Interim Network Manager (Independent Contractor)
Hourly Rate Range: $50.00 - $70.00 commensurate with
Weekly Hours: 15-25 hours per week (flexible as needed)
Duration of Assignment: 11/2025 - 6/30/2026
Position Goal:
Weekly The Interim Network Manager provides short-term continuity and oversight of the district's network and infrastructure systems. This role ensures system stability, reliability, and security while collaborating with the Director of Technology to prepare for a formal systems assessment and long-term roadmap.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field (preferred)
- Certifications such as CISCO, CompTIA Network , or equivalent experience
- Minimum of three years of professional networking experience
- Skilled with networking hardware (switches, routers, firewall), Windows servers, and MDM tools (Jamf, Apple School Manager)
- Strong analytical, communication and organizational skills
- Contractor must sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA)
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality
Insurance, Liability, Compliance & Confidentiality:
- Must maintain general liability insurance and, if applicable, professional liability coverage throughout the contract period
- Contractor acknowledges independent 1099 status and releases the district from all employment-related liabilities
- All work products, configurations, and documentation remain the property of District 28
- Contractor must adhere to district data privacy, security, and confidentiality standards, including compliance with SOPPA, FERPA and COPPA
- Contractor must sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA)
Reports to:
Director of Technology; performance review of Interim Network Manager is conducted by the Director of Technology and is based on network reliability, documentation quality, collaboration, and completion of assigned deliverables
Performance Responsibilities:
Network & Server Operations
- Monitor daily LAN/WAN, firewall, and wireless operations to ensure maximum uptime
- Configure and maintain server systems, virtualization (Hyper-V/VMware), and user accounts (Active Directory, Google Workspace)
- Document configurations, procedures, and vendor information to support sustainability
Security & Data Protection
- Support implementation of the school’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)
- Manage and monitor network and firewall security protocols
- Conduct regular security reviews and apply critical patches/updates, support incident response, and enforce access controls
- Adhere to district data privacy and protection standards, including SOPPA, FERPA and COPPA
System Oversight & Documentation
- Support implementation of the school’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)
- Identify upcoming hardware renewals, licensing, and service contracts
- Maintain accurate documentation of configurations, network inventories, and system changes
- Collaborate with Director of Technology to support the district-wide systems assessment
Collaboration & Reporting
- Provide regular network status updates to district leadership
- Coordinate with internal staff and vendors to ensure system reliability
- Support the technology team through mentorship and clear documentation practices
