This is a temporary, part-time Public Health Planner position, working 24-32 hours weekly through September 2026, that will collaborate with the Regional Planning Department to support Community Health Assessment and Community Health Improvement Plan development and monitoring. Work will include implementing quantitative data review, qualitative data gathering including community level surveying, focus groups, etc; data analysis, data visualization and report writing. Will provide additional support to a variety of Regional Planning projects.

Under general direction, working with the epidemiology team, this positions supports the assessments of health needs of certain populations and communities. Works in collaboration with agency leadership and staff, and community stakeholders and partners in analyzing and reporting community health data, developing plans to achieve public health objectives, and monitoring outcomes and performance. This position is part-time, working 24-32 hours weekly from June through September 2026.
Essential Duties
- Implements community health assessment and planning cycles in collaboration with agency leadership and epidemiology staff; and consistent with best practices and accreditation standards.
- Leads or facilitates organization and monitoring of Community Health Improvement Plan.
- Collects, analyses, interprets, summarizes and presents qualitative and quantitative data for community health needs assessment and Community Health Improvement Plan; and other projects related to identification of public health policy and action options, program development, and monitoring and evaluation of outcomes and results.
- Facilitates projects related to priority areas of division or agency, and/or community partners; i.e. epidemiology, regional multi-sector initiative, quality improvement, strategic planning, workforce development.
Other Duties & Responsibilities
- Performs all other duties as assigned or in response to emergencies, work load or staffing shortages.
- Maintains confidential information.
- Maintains up-to-date vaccines including flu (influenza,) in accordance with CDC guidelines: Recommended Vaccines for Healthcare Workers.
- Graduate degree in public health, epidemiology, health promotion, community health, or related field required; or a Bachelor’s degree in health education/promotion, public health or a related field with three years’ experience in health education/community health or public health field.
- In-depth knowledge of strategies and processes to promote public health, and ability to plan and organize development and implementation of community health needs assessments and health improvement plans
- Basic understanding of computer technology, social media, infographics and their application to public health practice.
- Ability to work effectively with the public and peers on projects requiring a team approach.
- Must work independently to accomplish workplans seeking assistance as needed.
- Must have emotional and mental maturity necessary for establishing and maintaining good working relationships with clients, community partners and agency personnel.
- Good written and oral communication skills; excellent public speaking and group facilitation skills.
- Excellent math skills; statistical & data analysis ability essential.
- Reliable transportation with valid Michigan driver’s license and certificate of insurance to travel to other locations for work, training, or meetings.
