What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Tax Manager position at Distinct?
Built for someone who wants to become a Partner
This is not a role for someone who wants to stay where they are.
This is for someone who wants to become a Partner.
One of the two partners has already started to step back.
The other is carrying too much of the day to day.
Work is being turned away.
Not because demand is weak, but because capacity at the top is stretched.
They want someone to come in, take real ownership, and grow into the future of the firm.
The firm
A referral only CPA firm with a strong reputation in Fort Myers.
Small by design. Stable. Low turnover. No internal politics.
The kind of place where people stay for years because it makes sense to.
Built carefully over time.
Now at the point where they need a senior tax leader to share the load and shape what comes next.
The role
You’ll be operating at a true Senior Manager level from day one.
Owning complex work
Signing off on quality
Managing client relationships end to end
Leading people without drama
The work mix is strong and well balanced:
High volume of 1040s, generally straightforward
Around 270 trusts and estates, with a strategic focus on growing this area
Over 260 small business clients across a wide range of industries
Business revenues from roughly $300k up to $14m
This is not a compliance factory.
This is a firm where judgement matters and where partners still care about doing things properly.
Why they are hiring
Right now, the partners are signing off on everything that leaves the office.
One partner is stepping back significantly.
There is no internal successor ready to take over.
They need someone who can step in, take responsibility, reduce pressure, and over time take on a meaningful part of the firm.
Who this suits
Public accounting background, ideally within a similar sized CPA firm
Someone who wants ownership and accountability, not just a title
Strong technically, but equally confident with clients and people
Someone who values stability, long term relationships, and building something meaningful
How the firm works
This is a grown up environment.
No micromanagement
No unnecessary hours for the sake of it
Busy season around 55 hours per week
Total annual hours capped at 2,080 and actively managed

The honest bit
This is not a role for someone who wants to hide behind process.
It is a role for someone who wants influence, trust, and a clear path to ownership.
You do not need to tick every box to start a conversation.
The firm is open to speaking with candidates now for a post 4/15 start.
