What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tax Advisor position at Distinct Recruitment?
Tax Advisor - Manager level
You might have just come out of a busy season where most of your time was spent reacting.
Deadlines. Returns. Clearing work.
And the conversations with clients?
Usually after the fact.
This role is built the other way around.
It’s for someone who wants to be involved before decisions are made, not just after.
The opportunity
This is a Tax Advisor role within a firm that has deliberately built itself around planning, strategy, and ongoing client relationships.
Not volume. Not churn.
You’ll be working directly with business owners and high income individuals as their go to person for tax decisions that actually impact them.
That means:
Leading conversations, not waiting for instructions
Running quarterly planning meetings and walking clients through projections
Spotting opportunities early and guiding decisions
Overseeing and reviewing work to make sure it’s accurate and aligned
Working closely with a small team to deliver a high standard consistently
You’re not here to process work.
You’re here to think, advise, and lead.
The environment
This isn’t a traditional compliance heavy firm.
They’ve built things intentionally around advisory, strong systems, and a team that can operate without constant oversight.
It’s a place where:
Clients expect conversations, not just completed returns
Quality matters more than volume
People are trusted to manage their own work and relationships
Hybrid and remote working are both supported.
What they’re looking for
Strong public accounting background with genuine exposure to tax planning and advisory
Comfortable leading client conversations and explaining things clearly
Able to balance technical knowledge with commercial thinking
Organised, proactive, and able to manage multiple moving parts without being chased
Someone who takes ownership and holds themselves to a high standard
CPA or EA required.
What this solves
You might be at a point where:
You’re doing good technical work but not getting enough exposure to clients
You want to move further into advisory but your current firm is still compliance led
Or you know you’re capable of more, but haven’t had the environment to show it
This gives you that platform.
The honest bit
This isn’t for someone who just wants to keep their head down and work through returns.
It’s for someone who enjoys being involved, thinking ahead, and building relationships properly.
You don’t need to tick every box.
If this feels like a better version of what you’re doing now, it’s worth a conversation.
The apply button isn’t a commitment. It’s just a starting point.
