What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Tax Manager position at Distinct | North America?
Senior Tax Manager
Some people enjoy the technical side of tax.
Others enjoy the client side.
This role is for someone who likes both.
Maybe you enjoy sitting with business owners, talking through ideas, helping them make decisions, and being part of the bigger picture. But where you are now, it still feels like too much production, too many layers, or not enough room to grow.
This is a smaller CPA firm, but not small in the ways that matter.
The clients are complex, established, and genuinely interesting. Closely held businesses, Partnerships, S Corps, individuals, and Trusts & Estates. A lot of the work goes beyond the return itself into planning, problem solving, and helping clients think ahead.
You are not sat in a corner turning work around for someone else to present.
You will be involved in the conversations, building relationships, advising clients, and becoming a trusted point of contact over time.
The partners are hands on, approachable, and genuinely invested in the team. It is a close knit environment where people help each other, ideas are listened to, and good work gets recognised. No bureaucracy. No layers for the sake of it.
The structure is intentionally small, which means visibility matters. If partnership is something you want longer term, there is a genuine route to it here.
The role itself is broad and varied.
You will work across closely held businesses, Partnerships, S Corps, individual tax and some Trusts & Estates work.
The advisory side is a real part of the role. Planning conversations, long term strategy, tax saving opportunities, and being involved in decisions rather than simply preparing or reviewing returns.
This is a firm that thinks long term, both with clients and employees.
No private equity. No roll ups. Just a stable, established firm that has chosen to stay independent and continue building properly.
A few things people tend to like:
• Overtime can be paid out or taken as additional time off, your choice
• Annual bonuses linked to hours worked above 40
• Profit sharing paid consistently for over 20 years
• Busy season capped at 60 hours
• Hybrid working
• Genuine pathway to partnership for the right person
• Smaller, close knit team with direct Partner access
What they are looking for:
• Around 8 years in public accounting tax
• Strong review experience across business and individual returns
• CPA or EA
• Someone who enjoys both the technical and relationship side of tax

Don’t overthink it. The worst outcome is a pleasant conversation about your career. The best? Well, that's where it gets rather exciting.
