Position Overview: Special Inspector
We are seeking experienced Special Inspectors to support a growing portfolio of construction projects across the five boroughs of NYC and parts of New Jersey. This is a hands-on, field-focused role involving major infrastructure upgrades and large-scale building developments.

What You’ll Do
- Perform Special Inspections in accordance with NYC Building Code – Chapter 17
- Conduct on-site inspections across diverse project types in NYC and NJ
- Observe pile installations and geotechnical conditions for code compliance
- Verify construction activities align with approved drawings and specifications
- Prepare accurate, timely, and defensible inspection reports
- Coordinate with contractors, project teams, clients, and regulatory agencies
- Identify deficiencies and communicate corrective actions
- Maintain strict adherence to jobsite safety requirements
- Support additional inspection scopes as projects evolve
What You Bring
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Architecture
- Minimum 3 years of inspection experience on NYC projects
- Strong working knowledge of Chapter 17 and related inspection requirements
- 5 years of NYC/NJ construction inspection experience preferred
Licenses & Certifications
NY or NJ P.E. license (Preferred)
ICC Special Inspector Certifications (any of the following):
- Reinforced Concrete
- Structural Masonry
- Structural Steel & Bolting
- Structural Welding
- Soils
- Mechanical
ACI Certifications (any of the following):
- Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I
- Concrete Construction Special Inspector
NICET certifications (Inspection & Testing of Water-Based Systems preferred)
OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety (required)
Skills for Success
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and safety standards
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office for reporting and documentation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail and strong organizational abilities
- Ability to work independently in the field while collaborating with teams
- Commitment to safety, compliance, and continuous professional development
Work Conditions
- Field-based role on active construction sites
- Regular walking, climbing, standing, and navigating uneven terrain
- Exposure to outdoor and jobsite conditions
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs
- Local travel throughout NYC and nearby areas required
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly Rate: $30–$70
- Annual Incentive Bonus Eligible
