QUALIFICATIONS AND DUTIES OF THE BUS DRIVER
POSITION: BUS DRIVER
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a properly licensed and certified as a school bus driver.
- Must demonstrate managerial skills in working with students and parents;
- Must be literate and able to communicate well;
- Must be knowledgeable in safety standards;
- Must be able to read a map;
- Must have a Commercial Driver’s License (Personal Expense);
- Must have passed a Physical Examination (Personal Expense);
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds to head level, when required;
- Must be able to kneel, squat, crawl, bend and walk without limitations.
- Must pass a Drug Test;
- Must attend the Bus Driver In-service.
- Other qualifications considered necessary by the Board.
REPORTS: School Principal(s) and Transportation manager –Immediate
Supervisor(s) – (Shared Responsibility); Superintendent of Schools- General Supervisor
JOB GOAL: To provide safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the district’s curriculum and extra-curricular program.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Obey all traffic laws.
- Observe all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
- Maintain discipline when students are on bus.
- Report undisciplined students to Principal(s) and /or the proper authorities.
- Keep assigned bus clean (swept and washed).
- Keep to assigned schedule.
- Check bus before each route or trip for mechanical defects, sufficient fuel, oil and proper tools to change tires.
- Perform Pre and Post Inspection of Buses.
- Notify the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
- Drop off student only at authorized stops.
- Exercise responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips.
- Transport only authorized students.
- Report all accidents and complete all required reports.
- Enforce regulations against smoking, eating and fighting on the bus.
- Attend meetings with Supervisor(s)/principal(s) as requested and/or mandated.
- Log all out-going long distance telephone calls and fax transmittals.
- Attend board meetings at the request of the Superintendent of Schools or his/her authorize designee.
- Perform other assigned tasks required of the supervisor(s).
