Lead Janitor (25 hours/week)

Job Summary
Discovery School is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Lead Janitor. Working with two other part-time janitors, this position is responsible for ensuring cleanliness and safety throughout the school, as well as a safe and welcoming environment for everyone. This role requires a proactive individual with a strong work ethic and the ability to perform a variety of cleaning tasks efficiently. As the Lead Janitor, this position is also responsible supervising two other janitors, ordering supplies, overseeing schedules, and accountability. The hours for this position are 12:30 - 5:30.

Duties

• Perform general cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and vacuuming floors.
• Maintain cleanliness in restrooms, classrooms, and common areas.
• Conduct floor care activities such as buffing, waxing, and stripping over the summer.
• Manage waste disposal and recycling efforts throughout the facility.
• Assist with minor maintenance tasks and report any issues to the administration.
• Ensure all supplies are restocked and that cleaning supplies are stored properly.
• Follow safety protocols while using cleaning chemicals and equipment.
• Ensure facilities needs are appropriately staffed and schduled.
• Order materials and parts necessary for the upkeep of the buildings and grounds.
• Manage chemical safety in accordance with Ohio regulations and maintain MSDS records.
• Control for quality.

Requirements

• Previous custodial or janitorial experience is preferred.
• Familiarity with commercial cleaning practices and industrial cleaning techniques is preferred.
• Experience in floor care maintenance, including buffing and waxing, is a plus.
• Basic knowledge of facilities maintenance tasks.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality work.
• Excellent time management skills to prioritize tasks effectively.
• Physical ability to lift moderate weights and perform manual labor as required.
• Ability to identify ordering needs and create orders.
• Ability to communicate productively with other janitors.
• Previous supervisory experience is a plus.
