What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Counselor position at Discovery Health Sciences Schools?
Kenner Discovery Middle School (servicing grades 5th-8th) seeks a School Counselor with LPC licensure; knowledge of Individual Graduation Plans a plus. Counselors provide social/emotional, academic, and behavioral support to our students. The counselor will provide middle school career exploration experiences and support 8th graders in making their 5 year plans. Strong sense of maintaining confidentiality, being solution-oriented and working with administrators while collaborating closely with parents, faculty and staff. Collaborate with counselors, mental health and social agencies beyond the school walls to help families wrap services around their children’s needs. Ability to implement and document student counseling goals and minutes within the confines of SPED IEP's and 504 plans is critical. Accurate record-keeping is vital. Participate in and provide professional development trainings yearly to include counseling topics, such as bullying, abuse/neglect, suicide prevention and intervention, student audits and other cogent topics as needed. Position available August 2026. Summer workshops and training are required.
