Position Summary
The Infant Teacher at Discovery Corner is responsible for creating a nurturing, safe, and developmentally-appropriate environment for infants (6 weeks-18 months). You will implement an approved curriculum, support each infant’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive development, maintain open communication with families, and adhere to all licensing and center policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide a safe, healthy and caring environment for each infant.
- Implement age-appropriate daily activities (including tummy time, sensory play, early language support, motor skill development) aligned with the center’s curriculum.
- Follow each child’s individualized feeding, diapering, sleep/rest plan, and maintain accurate records (feeding, diaper changes, sleep, milestones).
- Organize the infant classroom to support exploration and learning while ensuring safety (supervision at all times, safe sleep practices, clean/sterile environment).
- Establish and maintain respectful, professional relationships with families; report to families daily on each infant’s day.
- Collaborate with other teachers and staff to ensure continuity of care and alignment of daily routines, transitions, and classroom practices.
- Adhere to state licensing regulations and center policies (health & safety, sanitation, documentation, ratio requirements).
- Maintain cleanliness and order of classroom, equipment, toys and supplies; sanitize surfaces and materials by required schedule.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, trainings (CPR/First Aid, child abuse prevention, licensing updates) and contribute to a positive team atmosphere.
- Uphold the center’s philosophy, mission and values in all interactions and classroom practices.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent .
- Preferred: Early Childhood Education credential (CDA) or Associate degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field.
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience working in an infant classroom in a licensed childcare center.
- Ability to obtain/maintain required certifications: CPR/First Aid, Safe Sleep training, health & safety trainings.
- Must pass state and local background check(s).
- Physical ability to meet job demands: able to lift infants (up to ~40 lbs), bend, squat, sit on the floor, stand the majority of the day, respond quickly to children’s needs.
- Strong communication (verbal and written), teamwork skills, patience, and a genuine love for working with very young children.
- Must be dependable, punctual, flexible with schedule (within center hours), and able to work collaboratively with teaching staff and families.
Working Conditions
- The classroom is indoors, with some exposure to outdoor play (weather dependent).
- Infant schedules may vary for feeding, naps, diaper changes. Flexibility and responsiveness required.
- Noise levels moderate to high (infants crying, playful sounds).
- Must maintain safe sleep practices, supervise infants continuously, and be alert to health, safety and hygiene protocols.
