Job Overview
DROK seeks two Attorneys to provide high quality legal advocacy and representation for people with disabilities, consistent with DROK priorities. The Staff Attorney will handle a caseload that may include individual matters, complex cases, and systemic advocacy, including representation in administrative proceedings and in state and federal court. This position works collaboratively with attorneys, investigators, and advocates and may provide direction and supervision to non-attorney advocates as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice, counseling, negotiation, and representation to DROK clients in administrative proceedings and court.
  • Maintain an active caseload of individual and or complex matters and manage cases to timely resolution consistent with DROK standards and professional responsibility requirements.
  • Conduct client interviews and fact development, obtain and review records, and perform legal research and analysis.
  • Draft high-quality written work product, including demand letters, legal memoranda, administrative filings, pleadings, motions, briefs, and settlement documents.
  • Participate in hearings and other proceedings as needed. Provide litigation support activities such as discovery, witness preparation, and trial preparation as appropriate to assignments.
  • Participate on systems advocacy teams and contribute to DROK systemic priorities through advocacy, coalition work, and related activities as assigned.
  • Provide direction and supervision to non-attorney advocates as needed, including guidance on case strategy, documentation, and follow-up.
  • Assist with outreach, trainings, and presentations as assigned.
  • Complete required documentation, timekeeping, and internal reporting accurately and on time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the mission of DROK.

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
  • Active member in good standing of the Oklahoma Bar Association or ability to obtain Oklahoma licensure within a timeframe acceptable to DROK.
  • Excellent legal writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to exercise sound professional judgment, work independently with appropriate supervision, and collaborate effectively with a team.
  • Valid driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation, with ability to travel as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in public interest, civil rights, disability rights, or related practice areas.
  • Experience representing clients in administrative hearings and or state or federal court.
  • Experience supporting systemic advocacy, impact litigation, or policy work.
  • Experience working with and or demonstrated sensitivity to people with disabilities and disability service systems.

Work Location and Travel

This is a full-time, in-office position based DROK’s Tulsa office.Some statewide travel may be required, including occasional travel on short notice.
