What are the responsibilities and job description for the Advocate position at Disability Rights of West Virginia?
Disability Rights of West Virginia (DRWV) is the federally mandated protection and advocacy system for West Virginia for individuals with disabilities in various settings. DRWV is seeking two advocates to perform work in multiple programs. Travel throughout the state is required, including overnight stays, with occasional out-of-state travel for training. Applicants must have excellent report writing and communication skills to effectively interact with varying populations, including people with disabilities, the ability to measure and calculate accessibility requirements, and knowledge of the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) is a plus. Duties include direct advocacy, systems advocacy, outreach and monitoring facilities and other locations that provide services to this population, and monitoring of polling sites throughout the state of WV. Both positions require extensive travel.
It is preferred but not required that applicants have a bachelor’s degree and experience working with people with disabilities.
Telework is available, and the position will be based out of our Charleston, WV office.
