Drayage Sales Director
We are seeking an experienced and driven Drayage Sales Director to lead the growth of our port and intermodal transportation division. This role is responsible for developing new business opportunities, expanding strategic customer relationships, and driving revenue growth across drayage, transloading, warehousing, and intermodal transportation services.
The ideal candidate has strong relationships within the logistics and shipping industry, deep knowledge of port operations, and a proven ability to build and manage a high-performing sales pipeline in the 3PL space.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a strategic sales plan focused on drayage and intermodal freight opportunities.
- Identify, target, and secure new customers requiring port drayage, container transportation, transloading, and related logistics services.
- Build relationships with importers, exporters, freight forwarders, steamship lines, NVOCCs, beneficial cargo owners (BCOs), and distribution companies.
- Generate new revenue opportunities in key port markets and inland rail hubs.
Customer Relationship Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for high-value drayage accounts.
- Maintain and grow long-term customer partnerships through operational support and strategic account management.
- Conduct regular business reviews with customers to identify additional opportunities and improve service performance.
- Collaborate with operations teams to ensure service execution aligns with customer expectations.
Market & Industry Expertise
Maintain strong understanding of:
- Port operations
- Container logistics
- Rail/intermodal transportation
- Import/export processes
- Demurrage and detention management
- Capacity trends and market pricing
- Monitor industry trends, carrier conditions, and market opportunities to maintain a competitive advantage.
Sales Leadership & Strategy
- Develop pricing strategies in coordination with operations and executive leadership.
- Maintain accurate pipeline forecasting and CRM activity reporting.
- Work cross-functionally with carrier procurement, operations, customer service, and executive teams.
- Assist in building scalable drayage sales processes and territory development plans.
Qualifications:
- 5 years of logistics sales experience, preferably focused on drayage, intermodal, or port transportation.
- Existing book of business and industry relationships strongly preferred.
- Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales and revenue goals.
- Strong understanding of:
- Port operations
- Steamship line processes
- Container freight
- Rail/intermodal logistics
- Experience working within a TMS and CRM platform (McLeod, HubSpot, Salesforce, etc.).
- Strong negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-growth logistics environment.
Preferred Experience
- Experience selling services in and around major ports such as:
- Port of Savannah
- Port of New York and New Jersey
- Port of Norfolk
- Port of Houston
- Port of Charleston
- Existing relationships with drayage carriers and port operators.
- Knowledge of chassis pools, container yard operations, and port appointment systems.
