Direct Counsel is partnering with a highly regarded law firm in San Francisco, seeking an experienced Senior Family Law Associate to join its sophisticated High-Net-Worth Family Law Practice Group.
This is a premier opportunity for a seasoned attorney with deep California family law experience to step into a high-level practice supporting complex matrimonial matters involving substantial assets, intricate financial structures, and high-profile clients. The ideal candidate is confident managing cases independently, thrives in a strategic advisory role, and brings exceptional writing, research, and client-facing skills.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will take ownership of sophisticated family law matters, including:

Advanced Legal Drafting
Draft complex legal documents such as marital settlement agreements, motions, and settlement offers. -
Strategic Client Advisory
Serve as a primary advisor to clients, delivering expert legal guidance while developing comprehensive case strategies. -
Complex Financial & Business Analysis
Analyze corporate and personal tax returns, financial statements, balance sheets, operating agreements, partnership documents, and other intricate financial records. -
Negotiation & Collaboration
Work closely with clients, financial advisors, and opposing counsel to negotiate and execute high-value settlements. -
Independent Case Management
Manage an autonomous caseload, track critical deadlines, and strategically move matters through each phase of litigation or resolution. -
Legal Research & Writing Excellence
Stay current on evolving California family law and produce polished, persuasive written advocacy. -
Professionalism & Discretion
Represent the firm with integrity, confidentiality, and a refined client-facing presence.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:

J.D. from an accredited law school

Active membership in the California State Bar (in good standing)

10 years of family law experience, with the ability to manage cases independently

Strong knowledge of California family law statutes, regulations, and procedure

Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills

Detail-oriented analytical mindset and strong problem-solving abilities

Proficiency with legal research tools and modern legal technology

Demonstrated professionalism, discretion, and commitment to client confidentiality

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build lasting client relationships

Experience advising high-net-worth individuals and handling complex financial arrangements
