Privacy & Data Security Associate (2–4 Years) – Silicon Valley

Direct Counsel is representing a nationally recognized law firm seeking a Privacy & Data Security Associate to join its Privacy and Data Security practice in Sacramento, San Francisco, or Silicon Valley. This position offers the opportunity to advise clients on complex privacy, cybersecurity, and data governance matters in a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape.

Key Responsibilities

• Counsel clients on privacy and data security compliance, governance, and regulatory obligations

• Advise on compliance with federal, state, and international privacy and cybersecurity laws

• Assist with privacy considerations in transactions, product development, and technology initiatives

• Support incident response, investigations, and privacy-related disputes when necessary

• Help design and implement proactive privacy and data protection programs for clients

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials

• 2–4 years of privacy and data security experience in a law firm or in-house environment

• Experience advising on regulatory compliance and privacy governance matters

• Strong research, analytical, drafting, and communication skills

• Familiarity with emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, advertising/marketing, or product development is a plus

• Active bar membership in the jurisdiction where the candidate will practice

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $235,000 – $310,000, depending on experience, qualifications, and location.
