Direct Counsel is representing a nationally recognized law firm seeking a Patent Associate to join its Intellectual Property & Technology practice. This role offers the opportunity to work with innovative companies on protecting and expanding their intellectual property portfolios across cutting-edge technology sectors.
Key Responsibilities

Draft and prosecute patent applications before the USPTO

Advise clients on patent strategy, portfolio development, and intellectual property protection

Collaborate with inventors, engineers, and business teams on complex technology matters

Support matters involving software, consumer electronics, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies

Conduct legal research, prepare filings, and assist with IP-related transactions and disputes
Qualifications

J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials

2–6 years of patent prosecution or related intellectual property experience

Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Software Engineering

USPTO registration or eligibility to sit for the Patent Bar

Strong research, analytical, writing, and communication skills

Experience with software development, AI, machine learning, or data technologies is a plus
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range: $235,000 – $305,000, depending on experience. Associates may also be eligible for hours-based bonuses.
