Direct Counsel is representing a nationally recognized law firm seeking a Land Use Associate to join its Land Use practice in Los Angeles, Orange County, or San Francisco. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex development projects and help clients navigate California’s evolving land use and environmental regulatory landscape.
Key Responsibilities

Advise developers, property owners, investors, public agencies, and nonprofits on land use entitlements, permits, and regulatory approvals

Handle matters involving CEQA, zoning, administrative law, and land use litigation

Support projects involving affordable housing, historic preservation, and environmental compliance

Assist clients in navigating approvals under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), Subdivision Map Act, and California Coastal Act

Conduct legal research, draft memoranda and filings, and collaborate with project teams on strategic regulatory approaches
Qualifications

J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials

4–6 years of land use and CEQA litigation experience

Strong research, analytical, drafting, and communication skills

Ability to manage complex regulatory matters and provide practical solutions for clients

Active membership in the California Bar in good standing
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range: $310,000 – $390,000, depending on experience, qualifications, and location.
