IP Specialist – Houston, TX
Direct Counsel represents an AmLaw 100 firm seeking an experienced IP Specialist to join its Houston office. This is a full-time, onsite opportunity supporting patent, trademark, and IP litigation matters.
About the Role
The IP Specialist will manage IP docketing, case and file administration, attorney support, billing, and client reporting while handling billable patent, trademark, and litigation responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage IP dockets, deadlines, client portfolios, and case files.
- Prepare, format, proofread, and file legal documents with a high level of accuracy.
- Support patent prosecution, including USPTO filings, IDS tracking, application preparation, and reporting.
- Support trademark prosecution, maintenance, renewals, and USPTO/WIPO/TTAB matters.
- Assist with IP litigation, including document review, productions, timelines, QC, and e-discovery support.
- Coordinate client estimates, accruals, invoicing, expenses, and reimbursements.
- Handle file openings, conflict checks, engagement letters, attorney travel, and CLE tracking.
- Prepare client reporting letters, docket reports, spreadsheets, and status updates.
- Maintain accurate records in IP docketing and document management systems.
Qualifications
- 5 years of relevant IP experience.
- Strong knowledge of IP rules, procedures, and docketing requirements.
- Experience with patent, trademark, and/or IP litigation support.
- Exceptional organizational, writing, proofreading, and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Proficiency with IP docketing systems, iManage, InTapp, Chrome River, Adobe, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys and staff.
- Commitment to completing ongoing IP and technical training.

Compensation:
The budgeted salary range for this position is $80,000–$100,000, based on experience and qualifications.
